Fantasy Football - Drafting your Football Team

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Tk Healey asked:

Training camps are opened up, most of this year’s draft picks are signed, and preseason games are being played. This opens the way for fantasy football games.

What better way to brag to your buddies about your superior football knowledge than by beating them with a fantasy football team that you put together? We all know the guy who thinks he knows everything about football, but never manages to keep his team out of the cellar in the standings.
__________________________________________________________________
Fantasy football leagues have changed the way in which we watch football games. Head to head competition amongst your pals. Imagine this scenario: You are watching the Seahawks vs the Cardinals. The Cardinals have the ball on the Seahawk 7 yard line, but instead of cheering for the team to score you are cheering for Anquain Boldin because you are in a close game with you buddy from work who has Larry Fitzgerald the Cardinals other top receiver. Don’t just pick good football players be sure to pick a few of the great ones. One that falls into this category is the quarterback fro the New England Patriots Tom Brady.

Also in-between plays and sometimes even during plays viewers have their eyes glued to the bottom line. Not to check the scores around the league, but instead the fantasy alert which keeps viewers updated on who is scoring the touchdowns in every game.

Sports Illustrated. The Sporting News, and ESPN the magazines all come out with annual fantasy football magazines that offer cheat sheets, predictions, and strategies for dominating leagues. Throughout the season they also have small portions of their magazines where they update their strategies and ranking of players.

There is in abundance of information out there to dominate you league. Now its time for you to go out there; find the right information, join a league, and show of your football knowledge to your buddies or be the guy stuck in the cellar.

Good Old American Football With New England Patriots Tickets

Saturday, September 27th, 2008
Al Terry asked:

New England Patriots tickets are not just tickets to see some great live football action; they are also tickets to see a team that has often been dubbed as part of the modern NFL dynasty. The new millennium has certainly been taken by storm by the Patriots and they show absolutely no signs of slowing down. This is remarkable, considering that the Patriots had a less than desirable record in the beginning.

The New England Patriots are part of the National Football League and are also a part of the American Football Conference and the AFC East. The Patriots have ten Division championships to their name as well as five Conference wins and three Super Bowl titles. The Patriots play their home games at the Gillette Stadium.

Slumps and Scandals

The Patriots began as one of the founding members of the AFL and joined the NFL in 1970. The team did not make a good initial impression, producing the fledgling NFL’s worst season with just 2 wins and 12 losses. This was blamed on a number of factors, ranging from lack of team stability to the fact that they needed to practice in 4 different places.

While New England Patriots tickets remained a steady favorite, the Patriots themselves were unable to do anything extraordinary on the field, barring the fact that they won three playoff games on the road. By the late eighties and early nineties, the Patriots became bogged down with a number of scandals. The worst came in 1990, the same year that the Patriots had an embarrassing season record of 1-15. That same year, a female reporter from the Boston Herald was sexually and verbally assaulted by members of the team. The offending members were fined and the coach was sacked. On another level, the scandal opened up serious questions about female reporters and journalists in male-dominated sports like football.

From Zero To Hero

Even though New England Patriots tickets were still selling well, things couldn’t get much worse for the Patriots. In 1992, rumors began to surface that the team was going to be relocated and this could well have signaled a wake-up call to the team. Despite rumblings and quarrels within the management, the Patriots began to improve in their performance so that by the new millennium, they seemed like another team.

Now it wasn’t just the fans, football lovers everywhere began lining up for New England Patriots tickets after the team managed to win the Super Bowl three times, once in 2001 and back to back in 2003 and 2004. This improvement has reflected in sales of New England Patriots tickets, especially on their home turf. Sales records have shown that since 1996, every single Patriots home game has been sold out.

Today the Patriots are right at the helm of what many are calling the new NFL dynasty. The new millennium has seen some extremely strong performances from the team and the fans hope to get to see more great football action from them in the future. If the Patriots are playing at a city near you, get yourself some New England Patriots tickets and treat yourself to some real championship football. You can also go online and buy your tickets from an authorized ticket vendor.

Football Jerseys For The Nfl Fanatic

Friday, September 12th, 2008
Barbara Jackson asked:

NFL jerseys have always been a favorite among football fans. Whether you are at the grocery store, the movies, the bar, or the beach, you may spot NFL jerseys everywhere besides at the game. And these days, people are excited over the throwback sports jerseys from their favorite NFL teams of yore.
__________________________________________________________________

NFL jerseys are hot because they make for a stylish and comfortable outfit. You can’t beat wearing the classy midnight green of the Philadelphia Eagles. There’s nothing bolder than wearing the thick brown jersey of the Cleveland Browns. And then there is the stellar red, white, and blue of the recent Superbowl dynasty New England Patriots. Regardless if you’re wearing one of these favorites or your own home team, the jerseys make the right fashion statement for your young and youth-inclined.

They also help you represent your favorite team and players. An NFL jersey permits you to make a statement about who you are and where you come from. Perhaps more so than any other professional sport, NFL fans are immensely devoted to their teams. Sporting your jersey is almost a religious experience.

The experience comes to a head if you wear an NFL jersey in your rival’s stadium. Then you may have an unquestionable war between the faithful that depends on how well your team is playing, or how poorly the home team is playing. The warfare can heat up to volcanic temperatures if it’s between division rivalries, like the Jets versus the Dolphins or the Eagles versus the Giants. These kind of battles can remind you why you love your team so much, and why you despise the other team!

To purchase any of these NFL jerseys, you can head down to your neighborhood sporting goods store. If you do, you can also pay top dollar for your jersey. Score a touchdown, instead, by shopping online at great discount online sporting goods sites. Web sites offer you the best selection of jerseys, from the latest versions to throwbacks, and they remarkably have the lowest prices too. That’s as great a win-win as your home team knocking out the opponent’s quarterback on the interception that wins the game.

Bill Parcells - the Big Tuna in Nfl Football

Friday, August 8th, 2008
Tk Healey asked:

Bill Parcells aka “The Big Tuna” in football is regarded as one of the best NFL coaches of all-time. He has coached in 3 Super Bowl games in which he has a record of 1-2, two with the New York Giants and one with the New England Patriots. One of the two losses came after his kicked missed a 47 yard field goal as time expired.

Parcels is known for his ability to turnaround a struggling franchise. With the Giants it took him two seasons to coach them to a winning record and just one with the Patriots, New York Jets, and his current team the Dallas Cowboys. These were no backyard drill games, but some serious football. He was able to bring all of his teams to the playoffs within his first two seasons with a new team.

He is known as a hard-nosed coach who is able to get the best out of his players. Parcells has coached several “problem football players” such as Lawrence Taylor and Brian Cox. Also he has coached two loud mouth wide receivers on two different teams Terry Glen (New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys) and Keyshawn Johnson (New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys). This season he has a new challenge coaching Terrell Owens who has had several clashes with previous coaches and teammates, but knowing Parcells’ history this should be no problem.

When with the New England Patriots football team, Parcels felt he was not involved enough in the team’s personnel decisions. He made a famous quote, “They want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries.” With the Cowboys Parcells has brought in several football players from his former teams: quarterback Drew Bledsoe, Glenn, and Johnson, who has since left and joined the Carolina Panthers.

Football fans of Bill Parcells will be hoping his coaching techniques will bring them a Super Bowl team this season.

CARY

Youth Football Merchandise

Friday, July 11th, 2008
Scott White asked:

Youth is a time of imagination and play and prepares youngsters to manage their lives more successfully as adults. Most adults see play time as something less productive, however your child needs to act out and practice the tasks and activities in their own unique way. Their budding sense of individuality gives them purpose and drive which they wouldn’t have if they were a carbon copy of other kids.

Kids need to establish an identity that is unique and meaningful in terms of their own lives yet it still needs to be relevant to society and their own peer group. You establish the context for their lives and it’s a unique context, whether you live in Dallas, New York, Miami or Detroit. The sports your kids play from bicycling, to basketball, baseball or football, creates the context for which they’ll have time and opportunity to use their imagination and achieve something meaningful, even if it is symbolic. Imagination and even spirit doesn’t evolve from nothing. It requires something to make it happen and make it meaningful. Without a football and teams playing the sport, there won’t be cheering fans and adoring parents in the bleachers. And with people, the context for community and family spirit is much deeper and complex. For kids, identification with sports players is simple and straightforward and allows them to identify with other inspiring people later in their lives.

Catching a football may not seem too important to most adults but for a boy, it is a test of their physical coordination and sense of achievement. Their need for confidence demands the development of skills, and for kids, physical coordination and overcoming fear are two big challenges they want to successfully achieve.

If you could view a child’s imagination when they catch a football or hit a baseball, you’d see more than hands receiving a ball or the ball flying through the air. There are an additional complex of images such as other kids present, fans cheering, scoreboards, and admiring parents glowing in the glory of their big play. So the emotional and mental aspects of your childs play activities is very important. Without it, these physical skills and the drive to accomplish and succeed may not be there. Competitiveness has to be kept under reign but if a child can’t identify with a reason to succeed, they will probably not do as well as other kids with fuelled imaginations.

We all frown on materialism or the idea that we need the merchandise from NFL football or NCAA football teams to provide inspiration to cheer during football games or any other sporting event for that matter. Perhaps because of how advertising is done today, people sense that it’s not about the kids, it’s about NFL profits and broadcasters need for more ad revenue. It kind of sours the feeling of camaraderie of a community or even boys cheering for a particular NFL or NCAA football team. You need to look beyond the motivations of corporations and recognize that donning your favourite player’s number is not overdoing it and actually makes the sport more enjoyable.

You as a parent can still shape the imagination of your child and use football merchandise to do it such as kids football uniform sets, hats, plastic helmets, shoulder pads, jerseys, pants, and even funny fan faces. Your child will only pick up on the idea that they’re doing something fun and that learning to catch and throw a football can be a fun activity to do with other kids their age. It’s not about idolizing players or increasing NFL football team product sales, it’s about giving meaning to a sporting activity which keeps them healthy and active. Without this sort of inspiration, there is little reason to catch or throw a football. That is why some people don’t watch or participate in sports such as football. There is no context to give it meaning. By introducing big league oversized football to your child, they will understand the culture of the game, its history, the players involved, the challenges of playing a team sport, and an awareness of the world outside of your city.

If dad cheers for a particular team such as the Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots, then his son will be able to share in the spirit of it. With all these images in his head, he is going to be motivated to do well. It’s the same for any other activity a child takes part in. If their imagination is strong, they are going to learn faster and be more successful. It’s all in the context the parent creates.

So, rather than a wasteful outburst of physical energy, your child’s play time is actually preparing them for a more successful adjustment to life. Many parent’s first response to buying a child a baseball cap or a football jersey, is “my child doesn’t need it. He’ll do fine without.” Now you know those children that go without don’t do as well, and many end up wanting those football apparel items too much. Aside from peer pressure and the need to belong, they just want to feel special and attached to an inspiring idea.

The great thing about kids football apparel such as jerseys, pants, helmets, and pants are that they’re very inexpensive. Some youth football uniforms can cost less than $40 and some may even double as pajamas and Halloween costumes. You can even buy shoulder pads for an extra small amount. The overall value then is very good with these youth football merchandise. And play time in the backyard or just walking to the mall takes on a whole new meaning for them when they’re wearing their football jersey or uniform.

It’s all just for play, but play and fantasy are a very important part of your child’s development. A little outside help in the form of jerseys, caps, helmets, can go a long way to helping them learn spirit, team identification, desire to achieve, desire to conform, and yet still build self-confidence and independence. And with their new Halloween costume, they’re going to have a lot of fun this Hallow’s eve.

Original Football Action With Oakland Raiders Tickets

Sunday, June 29th, 2008
Al Terry asked:

The reason why Oakland Raiders tickets are so hard to come by is because the Raiders are one of the most popular teams in the NFL. Football lovers and fans can always be sure of exciting football action when the Raiders hit the field. Whether they are on a winning streak or trying to find their groove, the Raiders always put their heart and soul into every game.

The Oakland Raiders play in the National Football League and also hold affiliations with the American Football Conference and the AFC West. They have one of the most impressive title wins in the NFL, with three Super Bowl wins, four Conference title wins and fifteen Division titles. The Raiders’ home stadium is McAfee Coliseum.

An Unlikely Beginning

The Raiders were founded in 1960 and were part of the AFL. After the Minneapolis team shifted to the NFL, the AFL needed a team to fill the void and Oakland was the unlikely solution. Not only had the city not asked for a football team, it didn’t have the facilities to host one either. Still, the team was able to find people willing to invest. Soon there were people willing to buy Oakland Raiders tickets as well.

In 1963, Al Davis took over the reigns of the Raiders and things began to vastly improve for the team. Until the eighties, the team played consistently and managed three Super Bowl wins as well as a number of Division title wins and Conference wins as well. The Raiders looked like they had finally found some stability in their game but that was all about the change.

Moving Around

During this time, Davis was trying to get the Raiders’ stadium improved and when that didn’t materialize, he decided to move the team to Los Angeles. Fans were furious; after all, these were the people who had lined up for Oakland Raiders tickets for so many years. Despite the protests, the team was moved and the Los Angeles Raiders were born. Off the field, the move was marked by a number of internal quarrels that would brew on and off over the next few years. In 1995, the team was finally shifted back to Oakland.

The team was greeted with high Oakland Raiders tickets sales and jubilation from the fans. The Raiders seemed happy to be home and played consistently, though the glory of their early days was definitely lacking. In 2001, the team was involved in a famous controversial play called The Tuck in a game against the Patriots. However in 2006 the Raiders pulled in their worst record since 1962. The team is currently trying to improve its offensive line up which is generally seen as the Raiders’ weakest game point.

Many football lovers who love to see a hot and tense game buy Oakland Raiders tickets especially when they are paired with some of their rivals. Their fiercest rivalry is probably with the New England Patriots and was made famous in the controversial game called The Tuck and the tragic incident that left a Patriots player permanently paralyzed. So if you love football and want to see some hard hitting action on the field, get yourself some Oakland Raiders tickets. You can buy them online as well as from an authorized ticket vendor.

Just What is Fantasy Football?

Sunday, June 15th, 2008
Karen Larsen asked:

Intrigued by the idea of fantasy football, it’s not too late to get involved. A lot of people have heard of the term fantasy football, but aren’t sure what it is. A search on fantasy football brings back thousands of sites such as footballpdq.com http://footballpdq.com/, most of which are offering to allow you to become a commissioner or sign up to create a team, all at low cost or no cost.

So… what is fantasy football?

Here’s the lowdown. First, there’s a fantasy football commissioner, who’s in charge of the league, much the same as in real-life. The commissioner puts in the most amount of money to be the biggest cheese. This person is the final arbiter of disputes, makes decisions and, in general, gets to have the most leeway - and the most headaches - in the league.

Then there are the team owners. These individuals pay a lesser fee than the fantasy football commissioner, and manage their own teams. The owners choose who will be on the teams, what players will start, and so on.

So, the owners need teams. The next step is to pool all the real-world pro football players, rank them and then have a draft. Each team owner takes turns picking players for his or her team - hence the name fantasy football. Depending on how the draft goes, your team could be a true fantasy. Of course, some leagues have salary caps just as in real life, which prohibits one team from having all the best players. Trades are usually allowed, though depending on the league, they may be limited.

So once the fantasy football commissioner has a full roster of teams and the teams have a full roster of players… what happens? This is where things get interesting.

Team owner Alpha has players X, Y and Z on the team. In real life, player X is on one team, player Y on another and player Z on yet another. Before the game, Alpha has to decide who is starting, who isn’t, and what’s going on. Alpha then gives this information (by whatever means the fantasy football league has) to the commissioner. This information must be set in stone prior to the actual Sunday and Monday football games that NFL teams such as the Patriots and the Raiders play.

The real AFC & NFC teams play. Let’s say player X is on the Eagles in real life and is a quarterback. This Sunday, he throws three touchdown passes and the Eagles win. Fantasy football team owner Alpha has X on the team and, very smartly, started X for the football fantasy league games.

How this translates in fantasy football depends on the league.

The usual standard is that for every possible situation, a team can earn points. For example, the real life touchdowns of player X may earn fantasy football owner Alpha four hundred points each. Alpha may come out of the weekend as the biggest point earner, thanks to player X, which then sets Alpha up for contention as the fantasy football league winner.

Of course, this assumes that player X wasn’t benched at the last minute, depriving Alpha of earning any points and ending last in the fantasy football league.

The ultimate prize at the season’s end may be a statue or possibly money, depending on which fantasy football league you join. Or it may just be the prestige of knowing that you outwitted all the other team owners and came out as top dog.

While this fantasy may come with a price tag for participation, if you enjoy the game and avidly watch the players anyway, fantasy football can be a harmless way to spend some time.
